The fame of Premanand ji Maharaj’s devotion to Lord Krishna is well known. Varaha Ghat, Shri Hit Radha Kalikunj Parikrama Marg, in front of Bhakti Vedanta, the hospice, among many other locations now residence the Premanand ji Maharaj Ashram. Maharaj Ji received his Naisthik Brahmcharya initiation. Maharaj Ji never consented to the hierarchical life of an Ashram, so the majority of his life was spent as a spiritual seeker on the banks of the Ganges. Maharaj Ji didn’t know anyone when he got to Vrindavan. Darshan of Shri Banke Bihari and the Vrindavan Parikrama were part of Maharajji’s early daily routine. Maharaj Ji gave his Sadguru Dev ten years of devoted service while remaining in close proximity to him. Every facet of Maharajji’s life shows the infinite Grace of his Sadguru Dev Bhagwan and Shri Vrindavan Dham.

Pujya Shri Premanand ji Maharaj-Radha Rani Devotee

Pujya Maharaj Ji was born to a modest and extremely pious (सात्विक) Brahmin (Pandey) family and was named Aniruddh Kumar Pandey.
He was born in Akhri Village, Sarsol Block, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

His grandfather was a Sanyaasi (सन्यासी) and the overall household environment was deeply devotional, utmost pure and serene. His father Shri Shambu Pandey was a devotional person and accepted Sanyaas (सन्यास) in later years. His mother Shrimati Rama Devi was very pious and had great respect for all saints. Both were regularly engaged in Sant-Seva (संत सेवा) and various devotional services. His elder brother enhanced the spiritual aura of the family by reciting verses from Shrimad Bhagvatam (श्रीमद् भागवतम्) which the entire family would listen to and cherish. The holy household environment intensified the latent spiritual spark concealed within him.

Given this devotional family background, Maharaj Ji began reciting various prayers (चालीसा) at a very young age. When he was in class 5th, he started reading Gita Press Publication, Shri SukhSagar.

Shri Premanand ji Maharaj: श्री प्रेमानंद महाराज जी का नाम राधा रानी के परम भक्तों में से एक हैं. जो भक्त इनके सतसंग को मन लगाकर सुनता है उन्हें अवश्य ही राधारानी के दर्शन हो जाते हैं. परम पूज्य प्रेमानंद माहाराज जी का जन्म कानपुर के एक गांव सरसों में एक ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था. महाराज जी का नाम अनिरुद्ध कुमार पांडे था. इनके पिता और दादा दोनों की सन्यासी थे. इनकी मां धर्म परायण थी. इनके माता-पिता साधु-संतों की सेवा करते थे और आदर सत्कार भी करते थे.

कुछ समय में ही महाराज ने आधात्यम का रास्ता चुन लिया और श्री कृष्ण गोविंद हरे मुरारी का जप करना शुरू कर दिया. इसी के साथ उन्होने अपना घर त्याग दिया.ऐसा माना जाता है कि भोलेनाथ ने स्वंय प्रेमानंद जी को दर्शन दिए और उसके बाद वो वृंदावन आए.

ऐसा माना जाता है कि प्रेमानंद महाराज ने वृंदावन आने के बाद महाराज जी श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु की लीलाएं देखते थे और रात को रासलीला देखते थे . इसके बाद उनके जीवन में परिवर्तन आया. उन्होंने सन्यास त्याग कर भक्ति के मार्ग को चुन लिया.
